Instructor: Amyleigh Harrison
Instructor Bio: AmyLeigh Harrison grew up always knowing the sound of a sewing machine! Her Mother and Grandmother were accomplished seamstresses and fiber artists from young ages. One of Amy?s prized possessions is a quilt her grandmother hand embroidered. as a fundraiser for her local church in the 1920?s. Amy?s Grandmother even had a small alterations business in downtown Wadesboro years ago! Amy?s Mother was the creator of many halloween costumes, children?s clothing and hundreds of Afghans given to others as gifts and tokens of love. So, it was no surprise that Amy could sew and crochet before she could write. She went from doll clothes, 80?s Thrift and Flips in high school (think Pretty in Pink) to creating stitchy magic in the Appalachian State Theatre Arts Department Costume Shop during her college years. In the costume shop, Miss Amy learned about historical clothing, pattern making, draping, felting, weaving and dying. Even though she was a Theatre teacher during the winter and fall, she traveled and sewed for many spring and summer seasons for the Utah Shakespeare Festival and the Santa Fe Opera in New Mexico. Later in life, Amy switched from teaching Theatre to teaching Apparel 1 & 2 in the NC Public School System. For a total of 13 years, she taught as a ?Highly Qualified? and ?Certified FACS Professional?. After 24 years in education as a certified teacher and 3 as an independent contractor and teaching artist, she has stepped into sewing again as a way of sharing yet more stitches with a greater audience. Amy continues to work for NASCAR and the NFL on stitchy projects and will even sneak off to undisclosed areas for film and commercial for on set sewing. Taking a class with Amy will include highly informed and experienced instruction as she encourages a love of all things ?stitchy? and reminds you with this tidbit of inspiration: ?When life hands your lemons? go make something beautiful!
